Our Day Assessment Unit (DAU) provides out-patient assessment and monitoring for you and your baby if you have any medical or obstetric complications.
The DAU is situated on the ground floor of the Maternity Unit and is a specialist unit staffed by Obstetricians, Midwives and Maternity Support Workers.
We aim to:
- Provide high quality care to women with potential or identified problems during pregnancy while avoiding unnecessary admission or overnight stay on the antenatal ward
- Provide assessments - this may be on-going or a one-off appointment
- Ensure that on-going care is carried out by appropriate professionals, such as transferring high risk women to Consultant led care and low risk women to the midwifery led team.
- Women are usually referred by their Obstetric Team doctor, GP, Community Midwife or self refer by phoning Ext 2358.
On arrival to the DAU, women are triaged and seen in order of priority and in some instances admitted immediately. The assessment is usually between 1-4 hours and is tailored according to the individual woman’s problem.
On completion of an assessment, the midwife will review and plan care with the midwife in charge. Senior medical review is available if necessary.
