Once you return home you can expect visits from your community team. You will be visited the day following transfer home, during this visit the Midwife will check that both you and your baby are recovering after the birth.
At this visit your midwife will discuss further visits with you and tailor them according to your individual needs.

Who will visit?
The community midwife or a maternity support worker will be visiting you. Some midwives may also have student midwives present. Times of these visits will depend on clinic and homebirth commitments for the day. The midwife will also take into account your plans for the day of the visit.
Where will visits take place?
Future visits may be held in your home, your local Children's Centre or in the post natal clinic at Kingston Hospital.
How many visits will I have?
It is usual for women to have a visit from a Midwife or Maternity Support Worker the day after you return home, day 5 and day 10. Additional visits will be arranged with you if you need them.
What happens after visits from a Midwife stop?
Two weeks after your baby's birth you will be contacted by your Health Visitor who will continue to provide care after the Midwives have discharged you from Maternity care. They will give you information about local baby clinic and other facilities available to you and your baby.
They will also give you the 'Red Book' which is for you to record care given to your baby, it also provides useful information about how to care for a baby and immunisations your baby will be offered.
