Supervisors of Midwives are appointed by the Local Supervising Authority (LSA). They are a team of midwives who have undertaken additional education and training to support and guide midwives, women and their families. They are a source of professional advice on all aspects of midwifery care and ensure that the quality of care for mothers and their families is of a high standard.
Supervision of Midwives (SoM) is a statutory responsibility and covers all midwives irrespective of their employer. At Kingston a Supervisor of Midwives can be accessed 24 hours a day/ 365 days a year, via the maternity reception on 0208 546 7711 ext 2369.
One of the supervisors' roles is to provide additional support and expertise to women requiring care outside standard recommendations. We can offer support over the phone or in a weekly supervisor of midwives clinic (sessions every Tuesday afternoon), referrals can be made via the antenatal midwifery teams, your GP or you can self refer.
