Your midwife will weigh your baby at regular intervals and advise you about feeding according to your baby's weight gain. It is expected for your baby to lose weight in the first 3-4 days and should start to gain weight after 5-7 days. It is normal for your baby to be weighed at birth, between day 3 and 5 and around day 10 on discharge to the health visitor.

Your health visitor will give you information about local child health clinics. They will continue assessing your baby's growth as he/she gets older. Most babies double their birth weight by four to five months and treble their birth weight by one year.
