Rhesus negative mothers

If your blood group is rhesus negative a blood sample will be taken from the cord after your baby is born. This will tell us what blood group your baby is. We will also take a blood sample from you. If your baby is rhesus positive you will need an injection to protect your next baby from anaemia. If so, the injection should be given within 72 hours of your baby being born. Check with one of the midwives about what should happen in your particular case.
