The 8-Week Mindfulness Course
The course takes place over 8 sessions, each of 2 hours, one evening a week.
The 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course was developed By Jon Kabat-Zin, over 30 years ago in the U.S., at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre to help with illness, pain, anxiety, depression and to support mental health and wellbeing.
Who is the course for?
We can all benefit from mindfulness. This course is aimed at expecting mothers.
Summary of the course
The course aims is to learn new ways to manage moods and emotions. It enables us to learn how to take better care of ourselves and cultivate our mental and physical wellbeing.
What does the course involve?
Through cultivating present, moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness we can develop the ability to be grounded and balanced with what is happening around us, without judging the experience as good or bad. This can help us being more responsive and less reactive and get less caught up in negative feelings or thoughts about the past or the future.
Each session will include various mindfulness practices (sitting, lying down and gentle yoga for pregnancy movement). During mindfulness practices we will bring attention to our physical sensations, thoughts and emotions. Following each practice there will be periods of inquiry to discuss and share the experiences rising from the practices. We will also discuss how to use what is learnt during the course in our day to day life, and difficulties that you may be experiencing with the practice – either in getting to do it or things that arise for you during the practice itself.
In order to get the most out of this course you will be required to have strong commitments to your daily home meditation and movement practice (about 45 minutes to an hour daily). CD/apps will be provided to support your practice.
